GENERAL INFORMATION & TEAM HISTORY

WELCOME to the Charlotte Swim and Racquet Club Swim Team!

Purpose:
The purpose of the CSRC Swim Team is to introduce our children to the world of swimming, promote individual and team achievement, teach and encourage good sportsmanship, foster a family bonding experience, and provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for participants and their families. The benefits of swimming are well documented and include obvious ones, such as improved cardiovascular strength, flexibility, endurance, motor skills, balance and posture. But benefits also include social development, such as camaraderie, teamwork, building relationships with piers, taking instruction from our coaches, respecting teammates and competitors, communication, and leadership. Swimming also helps build personal resilience, discipline, and work ethic. And children don’t have to swim year-round to achieve these benefits. We have many swim team members whose primary sport is not swimming. Nearly every year we receive feedback about how swim team has improved performance and conditioning for children within their primary sports.

History:
CSRC Swim Team dates back to the late 1960s. The majority of our current Swim Team families are first-generation members of CSRC. But we also have many multi-generational Swim Team families – i.e., current Swim Team parents who themselves swam for CSRC as children. We also have a long-standing tradition of having current and former Swim Team members coach our team. We truly hope CSRC Swim Team becomes one of the highlights of your summers and a family tradition, as it has with so many of our CSRC families over the years.

Eligibility:
We encourage All CSRC Member children with even the slightest interest in swimming to join the team. Each season includes approximately 3-4 weeks of practice and instruction before our first meet. Coaches may assist swimmers in the water for our first 2 meets each season. By our third meet, swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted (although they may self-assist – i.e., stopping to hang on a lane line momentarily). Swimmers who aren’t quite ready by the third meet may continue to participate in all Swim Team practices and other activities for the entire season, and are still eligible to compete in meets as soon as they can swim unassisted. Individual swim lessons are also available from our Swim Team coaches for reasonable lesson fees.

Pursuant to South Park Swim League rules, to be eligible swimmers must be 18 years old or younger on May 31 of the year of competition. An exception is permitted for swimmers who are 19 years old on May 31, if the swimmer is still a high school student or graduating senior.

The age level of each swimmer for the current season is determined by the swimmer’s age as of May 31 of the year of competition. Each swimmer will swim his/her age level for the entire season, unless the swimmer chooses to swim in the next age group up for the season. This choice to “swim up” must be made before the first meet, must be indicated on the roster, and once made may not be reversed.

League Competition:
CSRC is part of a 7-team South Park Swim League, formed in 2007 after many years of being part of a much larger Charlotte swim League. The teams in our league (SPSL), all located in the South Park area, decided to break off and form our own league to reduce drive times and increase camaraderie among clubs – families on our teams are often neighbors, colleagues, friends, classmates, or teammates in other sports.

SPSL awards two team championships each season – the Dual Meet (Regular Season) Championship, and the All-Star Meet Championship. While summer swim isn’t just about winning, it is still a competition, and CSRC has has a proud history league championships, as follows:
