2020 Dive Team Guidelines

CSRC Dive Team Plan – 2020

Overview

CSRC dive coaches and parent volunteers have been working on a plan to provide our members with a viable and safe way to conduct Dive Team this summer.   While many other organizations have cancelled their summer activities for kids, we decided from the outset of the Stay-at-Home Order to adopt a “wait and see” approach.  We were intent on not overreacting to the situation, but were even more concerned with avoiding the risks of pushing ahead too hard and too quickly.  We’re cautiously excited about our plan, which is based on information drawn from numerous swim and health professionals and organizations, including local competitive teams, local summer league teams, governmental agencies, healthcare professionals, industry groups (such as USA Swimming), our own pool management company (which also manages large pool facilities for competitive teams), and other swim leagues from across the country.  In deciding how to proceed with dive this year, our goal was to follow closely in the footsteps of other organizations under greater time pressure to restart their programs,  drawing on their innovations and hard work, while taking enough time to learn from and hopefully avoid any missteps along the way.  We believe this plan creates the best reasonable option to provide our membership the dive benefits they’ve come to expect each summer, while prioritizing the health and safety of all participants.

General Guidelines

We plan on holding practices on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, in two (2) sessions.  On Tuesday and Thursdays, practices will be at 8am and 9am.  On Wednesdays, they will operate at a 15 minutes delay.  Wednesday practices will be at 8:15am and 9:15am.  The 15 minutes delay on Wednesday is to help with the parking lot overflow.   Swim Team practices at 8am and 9am on Wednesdays.  Dive Meets are tentatively scheduled for three Wednesday in July.  Those dates are July 15th, July 22nd and July 29th. At this time, Sardis Swim and Racquet Club, Windyrush Swim and Racquet Club and Foxcroft Swim & Racquet Club are all planning on having a modified season.  To adhere to maximum gathering and social distancing requirements, and to help with any necessary contact tracing on the back-end, Signup Genius will be used for practice sign-ups each day.  While not in the water, minimum distances of 6 feet will be maintained between all individuals (divers and coaches).  Divers 10 & under are encouraged, but not required, to wear masks while entering and leaving the facility.  Divers 11 & up are required to wear “face coverings” (as defined by NC Executive Order 141) while entering and leaving the facility.  Coaches are required to wear face coverings at all times while at the facility, unless in a location where prohibited or prevented from close contact (6 feet) with others, either by physical barrier or other clear demarkation. (updated June 26, 2020)

Practice Procedures for Divers & Families:

  • The health and safety of our coaches and divers, and their respective families, is a top priority at CSRC.  Divers and coaches may not attend any organized Dive Team activity if they:
  • Have had COVID-19 and do not have a doctor’s note permitting them to return to practice.
  • Do not feel well.
  • Have a temperature above 100.00° within the past 72 hours.
  • Have been in direct contact with anyone who has had COVID-19 in the past two weeks.
  • Have traveled internationally, but not completed the two-week self-quarantine period recommended by the CDC.
  • Divers must wear their swimsuit to the pool.  Clothes may be worn over suits, so long as no changing is required, as restrooms are to be used only for going to the bathroom.
  • Upon arrival, divers will be dropped off at the tennis court entrance, by the snack bar.   The rear gate will be propped open in order to avoid contact.
  • Hand sanitizer will be located at this  dropoff location, for use by each diver.
  • Parents will not be permitted to observe or enter the facility during practice, at least initially.  Once we are comfortable with practice procedures, we will evaluate whether parents can safely enter the pool area, without violating maximum gathering and social distancing requirements.   In the meantime, if parents want to remain at the facility, they will need to park and wait in their cars, being sure not to block the flow of traffic for drop offs.
  • At drop off, coaches will greet each diver and direct them to their starting point for the practice.
  • Divers will be required to have their own personal bag to hold all their belongings. They should keep these with them, placing them where directed by coaches (at least 6 feet apart, along the perimeter of the applicable area).
  • For those in the pool, once bags are placed (with all belongings inside) divers will proceed directly to their assigned board or chair, which they will know in advance (coaches will assign diving boards and chairs based on practice sign-ups).
  • When on the pool deck, coaches will monitor divers, encouraging minimum distancing and using cones or markings on the ground (approved tape only – not duct tape).
  • For warm ups, divers will once again  know their groups and locations in advance (through signups).  These groups will consist of 8-10 divers, and two (2) or more coaches per group. Social distancing will be maintained though tape/barriers.
  • Practices will end approximately 5 minutes before the start of the following session (if any), to allow time for swimmers to exit prior to the next session
  • After practice, divers will collect their bags and exit the pool using the rear gate.
  • Hand sanitizer will be used by divers when leaving the facility.
  • Coaches will stage divers  near dropoffs, remaining socially distanced.
  • Coaches will coordinate pickups, one at a time, in the same order of the cars lined up for pickup.

Practice Design for Coaches

  • Practice Sign-Ups
    • Each week of practice (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) will require parents to sign-up for the days they want their diverrs to attend.
    • Sign-ups for each week will open on the immediately preceding Friday at 12:00 noon, and will remain open until Sunday night at 6:00 pm.
    • A Signup Genius link will be on the CSRC website, similar to Adult Lap Swim.
    • Coaches will monitor the sign-ups and design practices and allocate divers to groups as appropriate, to keep numbers in check.
    • Printouts of practice sign-ups will be used by coaches at the beginning of practice (during dropoffs) to ensure compliance.
  • Practices
    • Dive Team Practices will take place on Tuesday and Thursdays from  8:00-10:00 am at CSRC.

Session 1 – 8-9 am

Session 2 – 9-10 am

Wednesday

Session 1 – 8:15 am

Session 2 – 9:15 am

  • Following the close of practice sign-ups each week, coaches will assign divers to specific boards.
  • Coaches will be positioned at the back entrance, directing cars.
  • Coaches also will be positioned at the dropoff points, with a signup sheet in hand, and hand sanitizer nearby for each swimmer.
  • Divers will be dropped off as described and parents will not be permitted to enter the pool area during practice.
  • Coaches will make sure traffic flow continues in an orderly fashion, using cones as necessary.
  • As each diver arrives and exits their vehicle, coaches will direct them to their starting area.
  • From the moment divers arrive to the moment they leave, proper social distancing guidelines will be maintained.
  • Coaches will remind divers not to huddle or congregate while on the pool deck and in the pool.
  • Divers will not be allowed to use the restrooms for changing, only for going to the bathroom and washing hands if needed, and coaches will ensure restrooms are used only one at a time, making sure to wash hands.
  • Restroom doors will be propped open, to avoid contact with doors.
  • At the end of practice, coaches will remind swimmers to use hand sanitizer as they leave the facility.
  • Divers will leave the facility and prepare for pickup at the same point as their initial dropoff.  Coaches will monitor diver lineup for proper spacing, and coordinate pickups, one car at a time.
  • Coaches will spray down all areas of potential contamination (spray only, letting areas air dry), including rails, , areas where bags were placed, door handles and gate latches.

Additional Important Notes

  • We will use the Remind App for communication with all parents during the season.
  • Divers who refuse to cooperate with coaches on social distancing guidelines/instructions, or any other health or safety-related guidelines, will be asked to leave practice for the day to ensure the health and safety of every swimmer.
  • Executive orders, CDC/OSHA guidelines, and other ordinances in force will be followed at all times and should overrule any contradictory guidance provided here.
  • These procedures will remain in place until further notice. As guidance and regulations are altered, Coaches and Dive Team Parent Representatives will review and update their policies as required.
  • Divers and coaches may not attend practice if they:
    • Have had COVID-19 and do not have a doctor’s note permitting them to return to practice.
    • Do not feel well.
    • Have a temperature above 100.00° within the past 72 hours.
    • Have been in direct contact with anyone who has had COVID-19 in the past two weeks.
    • Have traveled internationally, but not completed the two-week self-quarantine period recommended by the CDC.

Action Plan if a Swimmer or Coach tests positive for COVID-19

  • Head Coaches and/or Team Parent Rep, will communicate information immediately to all parents
  • Practices will be discontinued until cleaning and any related measures, as prescribed by our pool management company and Mecklenburg County Health Department officials is performed.
  • Team Parent Rep will contact the Mecklenburg County Health Department to comply with reporting, cleaning and follow-up procedures.
  • Additional communication will occur with families of divers who had “close contact” with the positive testing diver.  These individuals will defer practice attendance and be asked to self-quarantine for 2 weeks, monitor symptoms, and seek advice from their doctor.
  • Coaches will follow up daily with the family(ies) of the affected coach(es) or diver(s).
